It seems the life of a gentleman philosopher is by necessity to be filled with unfulfilled desires and unrequited love. Perhaps by definition. For if the possibility of happiness does not, given its scarcity in reality, why try at all? This inherent human desire for connectivity is maddening at best; its many levels of manifestation a labyrinth of overlapping and supporting structures, which even now have him writing to a theoretical audience w/ a clarity he can't realize face to face.
